A rare mid-century button down dress with an amazing novelty Geisha print. This is one of the most extraordinary prints we've come across from this era for a very long time. The dress almost certainly dates from the early 1950s, possibly late 1940s, and is made from a striking colour combination of monochrome and pink. The geishas are in a variety of poses and costume. The dress is a faux shirtwaister style so there is a centre front seam with the button stand running from the top of the yoke of the wide boat neck all the way down to the skirt. However, this is for decoration only. The buttons have a clear plastic top and cotton in the same colour pink as the fabric has been placed into the buttons to match. With a fitted bodice, the dress has some darting at the waistline with a gathered skirt and fastens with the original side zip. The material is a lovely lightweight cotton, perfect for spring and summer.
There is no label in the dress and it’s possible that it's a very well executed homemade piece; or more likely, made by a French couture trained dressmaker. In excellent vintage condition with no issues of any note; the colours retain all of their vibrancy. These measurements correlate best with sizes UK 8-10 or US 4-6.
